Latest Update

And thats a wrap, Dowra to Limerick City 14 Days, 250 odd km& all sorts of weather later Ger Moore has made history by reaching the end of his epic skins swim of the River Shannon!

I intend to swim the length of the River Shannon to raise awareness and funds for suicide prevention charities, Jigsaw and Pieta House.

I have chosen these charities as I feel there is not a house in Ireland that hasn't been affected by someone dealing with Mental Health issues and/or suicide.

My plan is to commence on the 18th June from the top of Lough Allen and swim past King John's Castle in Limerick City on the 1st July 2023, a swim distance of approximately 250km and to undertake this challenge in skins, i.e. without the aid of a wetsuit for my non swimming friends.

I believe this will be the first attempt at swimming the length of the river Shannon without the aid of a wetsuit.

I do not take this challenge on lightly and have been training hard in preparation for this swim over the past year with friends from Lanesboro Triathlon Club, Comans Masters SC and in the open water with the Lough Ree Orcas swim group.

I am self funding this challenge so any funds donated will go directly to support both charities - Jigsaw and Pieta House

I hope you can help me by donating whatever you can. Simply click the Donate button above.

Hi guys, As donations have now closed for my Shannon swim, I just wanted to thank you for supporting my Swim Against Suicide in June. Thanks to your generosity, I was able to raise over €9,000 for two very worthwhile charities. Hopefully this will enable them to assist someone dealing with their mental health issues or to support families dealing with the loss of a loved one. The swim itself was challenging but also personally very rewarding. I got to meet some fantastic people along the way and was amazed by the generosity of supporters and well-wishers. People and groups gave freely of their time to help out with logistics, marketing, provide water cover and coming along to support me at different locations on the Shannon over the two weeks. Special thanks have to go to my friend Colm Daly who accompanied me throughout the swim , provided updates and for everything that he did that went unnoticed (except by me). I also have to thank my family, friends, everyone in the open water swimming community (Lough Ree Orcas / Limerick Narwhals) , all the sub aqua clubs , search and rescue clubs , the Civil Defence volunteers and everyone who sat on a boat keeping me safe and supported me as I plodded my way down the Shannon. Without all your expertise and generosity, I would not have been able to complete this challenge. From the bottom of my heart, thank you one and all. Ger
