Following a successful swim relay of the English Channel in July 2020 (raising £35,000 for Henley Music School) we set our sights on our next ambitious challenge i.e. to swim The Bristol Channel in relay from Illfracombe in North Devon to Swansea in Wales.
On 22nd July 2021 we made an attempt to become the first female team to swim across the Bristol Channel. Having swum 61kms, and just 4.5km from completion the tide changed, threatening safety, and the challenge was aborted.
On 12th September, there was a gap in the wind and weather - us Mermaids were ready to go, only for a storm to blow in and scupper our chances - aborted before we even arrived in Swansea. We await the next opportunity to complete the full swim.
We decided to use our Henley Mermaids Bristol Channel Relay Challenge 2021 to fundraise in collaboration with SunriseForBrainConditions.org for the following wonderful charities: Huntington's Disease Association of Ireland, Dublin Neurological Institute – supporting Parkinson’s, Irish Motor Neurone Disease Association & MS Ireland. All funds raised on this page will go directly to and will be split equally between the four charities. Funds raised will be used to provide specialist care and support to people with these conditions and their families. Funds are urgently needed and your support in 2021 will greatly help these 4 worthy Brain Condition charities.
We hope you can help our fundraise and these great causes by donating whatever you can. Simply click the Donate button above. All donations are processed securely.
You can also share our page using Share options below. This is a great way to show your support.
We also had a very successful Henley Mermaids Auction on 28th October 2021 on Zoom and would like to thank all the bidders and particularly the successful bidders for their very kind support for these wonderful Charities.
We will update this message with the total raised when we have all payments in.
Many Thanks for your support.
