We are delighted to announce our plans to develop a new astroturf all-weather multi-purpose pitch on the school grounds. This development will take place on the outdated tennis courts near our school’s gym. Modern technology has meant that artificial grass has come on in leaps and bounds, and today it looks just as good as the real thing. However, aside from the aesthetics of artificial grass, there is also a huge range of other benefits to be gained, especially our school such as:
1) As artificial turf wears better than natural grass more games can be played on an artificial pitch closer together, with minimal maintenance.
2) Artificial grass can also be used sooner than natural pitches after rain leading to fewer delays.
3) A synthetic grass pitch provides an all-weather, non-slip and safe area for a variety of sports for students to play all year round. Lower maintenance costs and extended usage.
4) Communities need accessible, versatile play surfaces for youth and people of all ages. Parks and sports fields with synthetic turf promote year-round activity on safe and resilient surfaces. Increased activity helps reduce childhood obesity and promotes well-being.
Some of our best learning experiences take place outside of the traditional classrooms. We are now appealing to the kind and generous nature of our parents, guardians, students, former students and local businesses to avail of this
opportunity to give back to our school and your local community. Currently we share our limited facilities with local sports clubs including Na Fianna GAA and Drumcondra Soccer Club. The cost of this new sports facility will be in excess of €95,000.
The dimensions of this new astroturf pitch are approximately 1400m2.
Furthermore, if you would like to avail of the opportunity to promote your business or organisation by sponsoring part of this project we would be delighted to discuss this with you.

Every year, we work hard to provide the best possible educational and extracurricular activities for our students, but we can’t do it alone. Together we can continue making Dominican College an environment of excellence for our students.
Dominican College has been a part of the Drumcondra community for many decades. In this time, we’ve graduated many students who have gone on to become doctors, nurses, and even some of our present day teachers. But, we wouldn’t have been able to support these students on their educational journeys without the kind and generous support of our local community. We are proud of our sports facilities which help develop students’ love of sport and support the success of our teams.
