Joe Sweeny and 3 friends are fundraising on behalf of St. John of God, Carmona Services.

Joe has a personal connection with the Service - here's a message from Joe:

I'd like to tell you about my brother Paul and how he has been supported in life by the wonderful work of the Staff in St. John of God, Carmona Services. Paul has Down Syndrome but he's led a wonderful life of independence. He was there for the opening of the Dunmore House in Glenageary, where he was educated for a number of years.

In adult life, he has been in the St. John of God, Carmona Services independent living centre in Elvira in Shankill for over 20 years. He was very active, working in Dunnes Stores in Cornelscourt for many years and in his spare time, supporting Dublin and Leinster at home and away.

An active participant in Special Olympics representing Ireland in 2 world games, the highlight being Shanghai in 2007 where he medalled in table tennis. This was all possible through the fantastic encouragement and support of those involved in Carmona Services.

In recent years, Paul has moved to the St John of God, Coolnevaun facility in Bray, who care for those with Dementia.

As a small thank you to St. John of God, Carmona Services for everything over the years, myself and 3 friends; Brian, Terence and Noelle are undertaking the N2 cycle in Portugal - 738km from Chavez to Faro. All costs are covered by the cyclists themselves.

We will do the hard work and we are asking you to support us in our fundraising efforts by buying tickets in our raffle where you can win a €5,000 Sunway travel holiday voucher.
