I'm Rick O'Shea. I'm a broadcaster with RTE here in Ireland, I curate and host literary events talk *a lot* about books online, and run Ireland's largest book club.
This is now year FIVE of the annual Rick O'Shea Book Club Xmas Appeal, so far we have raised just shy of ONE HUNDRED AND SIXTY THOUSAND EURO for charity.
I know...
Last year we made €43,000, this year another €40,000 would put us over the €200,000 mark in the 5 years we've been doing this.
This year, we're splitting the proceeds equally between two charities I have long supported covering homelessness and aminal welfare:
The Peter McVerry Trust is a national housing and homeless charity committed to reducing homelessness and the harm caused by substance misuse and social disadvantage.
The DSPCA exist uniquely to rescue, rehabilitate and rehome sick, injured and cruelly treated animals. Through their education services, they impact over 150,000 people each year and focus on promoting kindness and empathy towards animals.
The appeal remains open until the first monday in January.
Keep an eye on the Rick O'Shea Book Club on Facebook and my social feeds (@rickoshea on Twitter and @therickoshea on IG) for updates and more details.
Thanks x
(Note - this appeal isn't in any way run by or associated with my employers at RTE. This is done off my own bat. Contact me any time at [email protected])
Read about Russell Crow donating and looked into this. We love animals and Ireland! Thanks for all you do.
Happy Christmas
