Charity Description :
Pieta House is Ireland’s first community based centre for the intervention and prevention of self-harm and suicide. It is a registered charity and its services are offered free of charge.
Charity Overview :
Clients can self refer, they do not need a letter from their GP or Psychiatrist. Once contact is made an appointment is arranged for an assessment. After assessment the client is assigned a therapist and treatment begins. All treatment is free of charge, however donations are gratefully accepted.
Charity History :
Founder and CEO Joan Freeman, through her work as a practicing psychologist and counsellor realised there was a definite gap in existing services for people in suicidal crisis and for people engaging in self-harming behaviours. Joan set up Pieta House in January 2006. Pieta House is based in Lucan, Co. Dublin with outreach centres in Ballyfermot, Tallaght and Finglas. In December 2010 the first centre outside of Dublin was opened in Mungret, Limerick. Joan’s vision is to have a Pieta House within a 100kilometers of everyone in Ireland
