St. Luke's Institute of Cancer Research

St. Luke's Institute of Cancer Research (SLICR), a registered charity, was established in 1992. SLICR supports radiation therapy based research and allied research across the three centres in the St. Luke's Radiation Oncology Network - at St. Luke's Hospital, Rathgar, and St. Luke's Radiation Oncology Centres at St. James's and Beaumont Hospitals.   The core function of SLICR is to facilitate research and development, clinical trials, education and training with the ultimate goal of better patient care and outcomes.   SLICR collaborates with international academic institutions to make innovative and practice changing clinical trials available to cancer patients in Ireland.   Many clinical trials assess new technologies to improve the therapeutic ratio of radiation therapy so that cancer cure rates are improved and side effects are reduced to improve patients quality of life.   Some clinical trials assess the optimal combination of drugs with radiotherapy to improve cancer cure rates.   Nationally SLICR supports the HRB funded Irish Research Radiation Oncology Group (IRROG) to ensure national access to clinical trials for all cancer patients in Ireland.   SLICR partners with the Friends of St. Luke’s and St. Luke’s Cancer Research Fund who fund leading research programmes managed by SLICR.
