Adamstown Community College

All neurotypes in our school are equally valued; however, to ensure that we meet the needs of all our students, The Parent's Council are actively fundraising so the school can develop a specially designed room that will cater for students with gross motor and sensory needs.  Students who are autistic, neurodivergent, or have social emotional, communication or behavioural issues in school experience higher rates of mental ill-health if they are not supported (Fort et al. 2021); however, those who are supported experience increased well-being and happiness.  We envisage that around 10% of our school population will require the use of the gross motor and sensory room on a daily, weekly or monthly basis.

overview

Thank you for the opportunity to introduce our wonderful school to you. We are so proud of our staff and students and all they accomplish, but we constantly strive to improve. One of the areas that will help our students and provide them with the capacity and resilience to deal with life's challenges will be the installation of a gross motor and sensory room. We believe this will enable them to express the best possible version of themselves and empower them with the potential for greater success and achievement.

where your money goes

The Special Needs Education team will purchase equipment as funds are raised, prioritising what will have the most positive impact based on the needs of our students. An external consultancy firm and specialist provider of sensory room equipment is also collaborating on this project to ensure we have the best possible advice.
