Musgrave Triathlon

Since it's inception in 2002, Musgrave Triathlon has raised a staggering €4 million for charity. The Irish Cancer Society, Our Lady's Children's Hospital Crumlin and Breakthrough Cancer Research have been the beneficiaries from this event over the years - three indispensable charities that have reached out and touched every community throughout Ireland.

This year is the 16th anniversary of the Musgrave Triathlon and so far we have raised €4 million and counting. To date the monies have produced many benefits for the charities, their patients and their families. The monies raised this year will go to Breakthrough Cancer Research and three regional charities - Pieta House, Cork Penny Dinners and BUMBLEance.

Breakthrough Cancer Research

Breakthrough Cancer Research is working hard to make sure families, friends and communities across Ireland have access to the best treatments for cancer and never have to hear the words, there is no hope.

Breakthrough is an Irish medical cancer research charity who want to inspire and enable financial support for exceptional research into cancer in Ireland, leading to more effective treatments for patients in Ireland and Internationally. In 2016 the triathlon gave €150,000 to this charity for their Pancreatic Cancer Research project and the printing of cookbooks for pancreatic cancer patients across Ireland.

Munster: Cork Penny Dinners

Cork Penny Dinners was founded 150 years ago and provides a warm place to have a meal for those who are homeless or those who cannot afford to eat. They currently serve up 1,400 meals a week in their centre in Little Hanover Street. Everyone that works there, are there on a completely voluntary basis. In 2016 we gave €25,000 from the Triathlon to cover their Christmas period. We look forward to supporting them again in 2017.

Connacht: Pieta House

Pieta House started in Lucan, Co. Dublin, in 2006 and now has services right across Ireland. Pieta House offers free-of-charge and freely accessible therapy to those suffering from suicidal ideation, those who have been bereaved by suicide and people who are engaging in self-harm. Staff are fully qualified and provide a professional one-to-one therapeutic service. Funds from this year’s triathlon will go to the Pieta House Services in Galway. Did you know that €1,000 of funds raised will save a life.

Leinster: BUMBLEance

BUMBLEance is the world’s first, fully interactive, State-of-the-art, Children’s National Ambulance Service. BUMBLEance provides a national service for critically ill children in Ireland who require transportation from their home, to and from paediatric hospitals, hospices, national treatment centres and respite care facilities nationwide. Their aim is to distract, comfort and entertain Ireland’s youngest patients as they travel to and from treatment centres nationwide and to ensure the smoothest and safest journey possible, for both carer and patient, from home to destination. Funds from this year’s triathlon will go towards the purchase of equipment for one of the BUMBLEance’s that service the Leinster area.
