London Marathon 2024 for ICU in CUH

CUH Charity is bringing a small group of runners to London to participate in the 2024 London Marathon on April 21st.

All funds raised will support the ICU department in CUH.

ICU (Intensive Care Unit) is a very specialised area looking after those who are critically ill - when a patient requires intensive treatment and close monitoring. As CUH is one of two designated National Trauma Centres in the country, ICU will require further investment and expansion in future years to accommodate the increased demands. 

There are many different conditions and situations that can mean someone needs intensive care.

Some common reasons include:

• a serious accident – such as a road accident, a severe head injury, a serious fall or severe burns
• a serious short-term condition – such as a heart attack or stroke
• a serious infection – such as sepsis or severe pneumonia
• major surgery – this can either be a planned part of your recovery, or an emergency measure if there are complications
