Hi All,
June marks the month my little lady Peyton turns 1! And it also marks the anniversary of her life saving heart surgery.
Peyton was diagnosed with coarctation (narrowing) of the aorta, and a VSD (hole in the heart) at our 20 week scan. After delivery she was transferred straight over to Our Lady's Childrens Hospital in Crumlin (OLCHC), and two days later she had her open heart surgery. We spent almost 3 weeks in OLCHC, where we received the highest standard of care from all levels of the medical staff. Although Peyton will be continually monitored as she grows older, we are hopeful that she will not need any further surgery and we are very grateful to have a beautiful healthy little girl who spends her time trying to keep up with her two older brothers!
On June 16th, Peyton's two Uncles, Kevin and Brian, along with myself will attempt to complete the 2.7km Boyne River Swim. Apart from the distance, it’s also guaranteed to be a very cold affair, with water temperatures between 10-13 degrees Celsius! This is no easy task and all going well (and hopefully with a very favorable current) should take me approx an hour!. Likely, Kevin and Brian will be long finished by the time I manage to make it across the finish line! Hopefully they won't need to get back in to fish me out! (In hindsight I should have just signed up for a 10k fun J)
In Ireland 1 in 100 hundred children are born with a congenital heart defect (CHD), and about half of them will require heart surgery. Heart Children Ireland raises funds to help support the cardiac unit in OLCH Crumlin, as well as supporting the children and families with CHD.
Please give generously to this worthy cause. Getting into the freezing river alone is worth a donation :)
Thanks in advance for your support
