Thank you for taking the time to visit our fundraising page. On 31st August 2018, Brian will attempt to run the Ultra Trail of Mont Blanc to raise much needed funds for the Irish Motor Neuron Disease Association (IMNDA) and Research Motor Neuron (RMN). All funds raised here will go directly to both of these causes.
Brian's run is in memory of our dear friend and neighbour, Paul Murphy, who lost his battle with MND in 2016. It is also to support another dear friend, Fr Tony Coote, who began his battle with MND earlier this year. Soon after his diagnosis, Tony came up with the idea for his fundraising campaign, to Walk While You Can. He set an overall target of €250,000 to be split between the IMNDA, which provides care and support to people with Motor Neuron Disease, and Research Motor Neuron, the organisation that promotes and supports research into the causes and treatments of Motor Neuron Disease. Tony's event began on 10th July when he set out from Letterkenny in Donegal and walked the length of Ireland, reaching Ballydehob in West Cork on 6th August. Brian's event, the Ultra Trail of Mont Blanc (UTMB), is considered to be one of the most challenging ultra marathons. It follows the route of the Tour du Mont Blanc through France, Italy and Switzerland, a distance of 166km (103 miles) and a total elevation gain of almost 10,000m. Brian has undertaken many adventures but this will be his biggest challenge to date. It is also the first time that he is using a race to raise awareness and funds for any cause. All monies raised here for Brian's run will build on Tony's fund and go directly to the IMNDA and RMN to help in the fight against Motor Neuron Disease. #runwhileyoucan #utmb4mnd

The Irish Motor Neurone Disease Association (IMNDA) is the only organisation of its kind in the country providing specialised services to families affected by this terminal condition. The Association cannot slow the progression of MND or change the outcome but we can alleviate the feelings of isolation and frustration. We offer consistent support to approximately 450 families across Ireland who otherwise would have nowhere else to turn. Everybody with MND has different needs at different stag
