Our friend Stella was diagnosed with Motor Neuron Disease in September 2017. It was an horrendous diagnosis for a mother, wife, daughter, sister, friend and teacher. She threw herself into researching everything she could about the disease and Stephen Hawkins quickly became her inspiration. She was determined to be the one to beat it !
Unfortunately, Stella deteriorated very quickly but she never once gave up and she never once let her condition get her down. She continued to be her bubbly self ..... drawing funny pictures on her chalk board when her speech went, getting her nails manicured in her hospital bed, laughing and joking as normal with her kids and online shopping became her forte....she even joked that it was great because her husband hadn’t the heart to complain about her spending 🤗
Stella wanted to do something to raise money to help others with MND, and to try to find a cure. She threw out ideas at us left right and centre, but when it became evident that she was never going to be well enough to participate she made us promise to do something to fundraise on her behalf once she had passed away.
That day came sooner than any of us could have expected. On 18th December 2017 our friend Stella left this world, leaving behind her 4 amazing children, her loving husband, her heartbroken dad, sister and brother, her many pupils past and present and her wide circle of friends.
Stella was an amazing, quirky, funny, loving, strong person. The way she bore her load was a testament to her personality. She even made sure she had everyone’s Christmas present bought (her online shopping again) and left behind when she went.
We made a promise to her and while it has taken us a little time to pull ourselves together and get this off the ground we are finally ready to raise as much money as we can for MND in Stella’s memory. Stella was full of fun and loved her music and dancing so what better way to round off the fundraising but a night of music and fun in her local, Ned’s of Ballingar.
Please make a donation to this online appeal no matter how small. Every donator will be entered into the raffle on the night and anyone who can join us on the night is more than welcome !

The Irish Motor Neurone Disease Association (IMNDA) is the only organisation of its kind in the country providing specialised services to families affected by this terminal condition. The Association cannot slow the progression of MND or change the outcome but we can alleviate the feelings of isolation and frustration. We offer consistent support to approximately 450 families across Ireland who otherwise would have nowhere else to turn. Everybody with MND has different needs at different stag
