September 2018 my uncle Niall got out bed at 7.30am to go to play golf. In the following hours his life was changed forever. The First thing he remembered was his left arm feeling numb and his legs went out from under him and he was unable to get up. Luckily he managed to wake his wife, Clare and she phoned for help. The ambulance arrived whithin 10 minutes and he was transported to Mullingar hospital in less than 30 minutes. The treatment he received in the following hours no doubt saved his life. Niall had experienced a stroke. He was transferred to Beaumont hospital and had a blood clot removed from his brain. He also spent time in The Mater Hospital Dublin receiving further treatment.
After Nialls initial recovery he spent 4 weeks in the National Rehabilitation Hospital. Here he strenghtened and gained some movement in his left arm and hand, He even practiced his golf swing. This was all thanks to the great work of the NRH.
I decided to to raise funds for this wonderful organisation so they can continue to do the amazing work they do to help children and adults. Also to fund research and equipment for the NRH.
