Heading away on my 11th volunteer trip to Vesnova institution for children and young adults with physical and mental disabilities. People often ask why we volunteer and put so much hard work / time into Chernobyl Chidren International. Its often hard to put into words why it means so much to us but is great to see the differences you can make to these children's lives and the hope that you can bring to them. When you realise something as small as giving them a small toy or bubbles means the world to them . When you reach out a holding hand and you get the biggest smile in the world looking right back at you. When you have watched a child scoot around the floor on their knees with limbs problems for months and then finallt see them progress to walking after physio and TLC. The most amazing feelings in the world and all this can be achieved with vital fundraising. All the children and young adults want is love, TLC and the chance of some independence. The aim of the raffle is to raise some money to fund 22 children and young adults to come from Vesnova Institution to Dublin for summer rest and recuperation. Many of these children and young adults have grown up spending their entire lives within the grounds of the institution not knowing what outside life is like. The aim of summer rest and recuperation is to provide fresh air and food for these children and young adults during a time that there is increased amounts of raditaion due to the country being ravaged by forest fires. Rest and Recuperation also aims to provide TLC, one to one attention, socialisation, education and encouraging independence for these fantastic children and young adults. Funds will also go to providing some medical care and education programmes in the orphange itself too.
