On Sunday 27th October 2019 I will be taking on the challenge of running 26.2 miles in the KBC Dublin City Marathon. This is my first marathon and the farthest I will have ever run ……
I hope to raise funds to help support the following two amazing Charities;
National Rehabilitation Unit, Dún Laoghaire, Dublin
and
Clare Crusaders Children’s Clinic, Barefield, Ennis, Co Clare
I have chosen these two charities because I’ve seen first-hand the benefits they provide.
On the 28th October 2018 my 16 years old niece, Niamh McMorrow from Trim, Co Meath suffered a seizure and fell down a flight of stairs, breaking her C6 vertebrae which in turn caused bruising to her spinal cord. The result was paralysis from the chest down and initially the indications for a positive outcome weren’t good. After 3 months of medical care at the Mater Hospital Niamh moved to the National Rehabilitation Hospital in Dún Laoghaire where she underwent intensive physiotherapy and occupational therapy. With Niamh’s positive attitude and determination and the excellent treatment she received at the NRH, Niamh made a fantastic recovery and walked out the doors of the Hospital 3 months later to the delight of all her family and friends.
Clare Crusaders Children’s Clinic, Barefield, Ennis, Co Clare
The Clare Crusaders Children’s Clinic in Barefield, Ennis provides free therapy and specialist treatments such as Speech & Language Therapy, Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy and Play Therapy to over 450 Children with special needs in County Clare. The Clinic receives no state funding and must raise over €250,000 per annum to provide the current level of therapy.
After spending many months running with the Clare Crusaders group I have learnt how important this service is to so many families in Co Clare. I was struck by the dedication and hard work so many people do voluntarily to fundraise to keep the service going.
Please help me to help both charities by Simply clicking the Donate button above. All donations are processed securely.
Spread the word by sharing the link with all your friends and family. Thank you in advance for your support xx Olivia
Any funds raised will be divided equally and go directly to both charities.
