I am taking part in Spinal Injuries Ireland Charity Cycle, starting Saturday 25th July and plan to cycle on average 55km for the next four weekends. 20 years ago on the 4th of August 2000 while traveling in Queensland Australia, I was involved in a road traffic accident and sustained a C5/C6 spinal injury, I was ventilated to rest my body and needed a tracheostomy . When the ventilator was removed I had no movement from the neck down. I spent two months in Princess Alexandra Hospital in Brisbane and then a further 8 months in the National Rehabilitation Hospital in Dublin. Thankfully, with amazing support from the medical teams, family and friends I recovered well and the majority of my mobility has returned. I’m doing this challenge to support Spinal Injuries Ireland (SII). SII help people with spinal cord injuries’ to engage fully in society. They empower them to achieve personal, social and vocational goals, to live independent and fulfilling lives and to become as valued a member of society as they want to be. Please help me help them by giving whatever you can using the 'Give Now' button. The more people know about Spinal Injuries Ireland, the greater their impact, so please also spread the word by sharing my page with your friends and family. Thank you in advance for your generosity, it means a lot!
