I'm doing to fundraise for Bunscoil McAuley Rices new computer lab, to buy some 3D Printers. Your support is very much appreciated.
Bunscoil McAuley Rice was established in 2007 as a result of the amalgamation of the two local primary schools in Callan , Co. Kilkenny. We moved into...
In October 2020, Bunscoil McAuley Rice will begin construction works on an extension to the school which will include a dedicated computer/ technology lab to benefit the almost 430 pupils currently enrolled.
It is the aspiration of Bunscoil McAuley Rice to provide pupils with the best STEM education possible using the latest technologies available. In addition to plans to provide our pupils with a fully equipped computer lab, we also aim to obtain a number of 3D Printers to augment STEM education in our school. It would be truly amazing to be able to challenge our pupils with real life problems where they had to create and print real life solutions via 3D Printing – an opportunity that very few Irish primary schools can currently offer to their pupils.
3D Printing technology being used in a variety of ways and providing a number of benefits to Bunscoil McAuley Rice:
· Access to a 3D Printer would be brilliant for improving student engagement, co-operation, satisfaction and participation in STEM subjects especially seeing as a physical product is produced at the end of the process as a solution to their problem and to reward their effort.
· 3D Printing would promote more active learning in our school. It is of huge benefit to children of all ages when there is a subject to physically interact with – take for example when students are learning about fossils and artefacts, they are unable to touch or hold items. 3D printing lets students touch, study, and take home products that are as intricate as the real-world equivalent.
· A 3D Printer would add to the fostering of creative thinking and inquiry. Being able to try new things, test theories, and think more creatively can aid the learning process. A 3D printer would help to encourage our pupils to be innovative and creative because they can adjust their ideas through trial and error. As a result, students are more likely to remember the facts and lessons learned.
· Most importantly, exposure to a 3D Printer and its possibilities at such a young age can create curiosity and ultimately encourage children to aim for careers in STEM subjects.
