Motor Neurone Disease (MND) is a progressive neurological condition that attacks the motor neurones, or nerves, in the brain and spinal cord. This means messages gradually stop reaching the muscles, which leads to weakness and wasting. MND can affect how you walk, talk, eat, drink and breathe. Some people may also experience changes to their thinking and behaviour. However, not all symptoms necessarily happen to everyone and it is unlikely they will all develop at the same time, or in any specific order. MND strikes people of all ages and currently there is no cure, however symptoms can be managed to help the person achieve the best possible quality of life. There are currently over 420 people in Ireland living with MND. A group of 20 Balla lads will cycle 40k from Balla to Croagh Patrick with another group joining for the climb, all in aid of the Irish Motor Neuron Disease Association. It is a cause that is close to our hearts.
Any donations towards this fantastic charity would be much appreciated and go towards helping individuals and providing support to families of individuals in Ireland diagnosed with MND.
