My name is Cathal Mullane and I am running in the Dublin City Marathon at the end of October. I have chosen to fundraise in memory of my friend Brian Atkinson who sadly passed away in 2020. Two charities in particular provided great comfort and support to Brian, his wife Emma, son Benjamin and wider family during his illness: The Galway Hospice and Athenry Cancer Care.
The Galway Hospice cares for over 250 patients every day, at home , in the hospice and in the community. Hospice services include inpatient care, community palliative care, day care and bereavement support. All services are provided free of charge for as long as they are needed, thanks to the support of the public.
Athenry Cancer Care is a voluntary led and managed service dedicated to providing caring, holistic support to people whos lives have been affected by a cancer diagnosis, in a welcoming, homely environment.
Brian will forever be remembered as a wonderful father, husband, son, brother and friend to so many. He completed the Dublin City Marathon himself in 2010. I know he would have provided great encouragement and training advice in the lead up to the run.
Thanks for taking the time to support the Galway Hospice and Athenry Cancer Care in memory of Brian.
Many Thanks for your support.
