This is Terri and Rachel and we are taking on the mini marathon on the 2nd June 2024 for the Irish Sepsis Foundation.
This charity is extremely close to me on a personal level because on April 24th 2022, my dad passed away with one of the reasons being sepsis.
My dad myles went into hospital on 8th April 2022 at 11am with a pain in his shoulder. Dad became unwell and at 6pm we were advised to get our whole family to come in as he was rapidly going downhill and the hospital were unable to diagnose at that point what was wrong with him.
Dad arrested that night but managed to come back to us.
Late that evening, aroung 10pm dad was taken for CT scan.
At 1am the doctor came to tell us that dad had various complications including pneumonia and sepsis.
Dad fought an amazing fight and we firmly believed we would get him home with a long road to recovery. Unfortunately however this wasn’t to be and sadly he took his final breathe on 24th April 2022. We were lucky to have dad for two weeks to see him and talk to him but unfortunately some families don't get this opportunity. His own sibling did not get this opportunity as we thought we would have more time with him.
Sepsis is a silent killer and the symptoms are not always obvious.
Detection early can provide the vital medication and antibiotics needed to help fight sepsis.
we would love to raise money to help raise awareness but especially life saving equipment to help detect sepsis at earlier stages.
If you can please spare a few euros to help raise money for this charit and help families not experience what we did.
