Hello Everyone, thank you for all of the great support during the last time I was raising money for Breakthrough Cancer Research! Together we raised over €1500.
I have decided to run the Belfast City Marathon in May, in support of the same charity Breakthrough Cancer Research, who are making serious ground in research towards helping and assisting people with cancer diagnosis.
As some people may already know, we sadly lost my mam recently after a battle with cancer. My mam was one of the strongest and funniest people that I have ever met, always up for a laugh and never short of things to say. A massive shock and an even bigger loss.
Words can't describe how much I'm going to miss her, she was a superhero to me, fighting through a horrible disease with a smile on her face, pushing the rest of us on alongside her.
My fundraiser was never intended to help my mam, but something we had decided to do, to help somebody in the future from the situation that she was in. Thank you to everyone who has supported the fundraiser already, I would really appreciate any more support that I can get.
The goal has obviously changed for the marathon now, I had been hoping for under 4 hours and was well on track to do so, now its just about finishing and I'll be needing all of my mams strength to get me over the line.
Love you ma, I'm gonna miss you x
An estimated 42,000 people in Ireland get cancer each year. This figure is comprised of both invasive (cancers that can spread beyond the place they originated) and non-invasive tumours (cancers that do not spread). It includes non-melanoma skin cancers (the most common type of cancer in Ireland). More people are surviving cancer, thanks to the research these charities do.
Please, if you have anything to spare, send it on! https://breakthroughcancerresearch.ie/ is the charity website.
Many Thanks for your support.
Best of luck Sam
Sam, all our best wishes for Sunday. It will be an emotional but beautiful day for you also as you remember your mum Tricia. (Clare, Ray, Aideen & Niamh)

Breakthrough Cancer Research funds the efficient and effective development of new treatments for cancer. We work to significantly impact the number of people who can survive this disease. Research programmes funded by Breakthrough Cancer Research must focus on translating lab discoveries into new treatment opportunities. To this end we work closely with clinicians in practice all over Ireland so that our research is targeted at finding new options for poor prognosis and incurable cancers.
