On October 18, 2023 Greywood Arts was hit hard by Storm Babet. Flood waters reached over a metre outside and up to 80cm (32 inches) inside the newly refurbished Coach House Creative Hub.
The Coach House, only opened in May, needs a new heat pump system (€7,500), as well as new doors, skirting boards and toilet cubicles. The resident artists experienced loss of materials and equipment (€8,500). Our log cabin office requires extensive repairs, and office equipment needs replacement. Damage to the artist residency and home of our artistic director will require new doors, flooring, furniture and electronics. 9+ metres of our 250-year old garden wall collapsed, and the garden is looking pretty rough after becoming part of the river for the day.
Our mission is to put creativity at the heart of East Cork. We are passionate about creating a welcoming place for artists and the community to come together to explore the creative process, grow, and discover a sense of belonging. We do this through programming classes, workshops, artist residencies and cultural events like literary readings, music nights and exhibitions. Based in Killeagh village, at the foot of Glenbower Wood, we opened our doors in 2017, and have already outgrown our space.
