The Parent's Association of St. Finian's National School in Waterville, Co. Kerry are organising a Superdraw raffle to help raise funds for an incredible outdoor facility for the children.
The development will consist of a Sensory Garden, Polytunnel and Astroturf. The school's current outdoor space is a green field which unfortunately is unusable for most of the year due to our wet, coastal conditions in Waterville. Our 106 students are therefore confined to quite a small area where they have very little space to run around and play. This development will see the children's outdoor capacity doubled.
As well as creating more useable space, a sensory garden and polytunnel will provide the children with an enhanced learning experience that goes beyond the classroom. The benefits of gardening and plant care can help improve the children's physical and mental wellbeing, develop important fine and gross motor skills as well as important life skills.
The Astro turf will also provide the children with a badly needed outdoor playing pitch which goes far beyond just ball sports. It will help the students try new physical activities in a safe environment which they are unfortunately lacking with the current yard space.
This is a very ambitious project which will take a lot of funding. The project's overall financial target to reach is €150,000. The Parent's Association are running this Superdraw in the hopes that we can help our school reach their target and that the children of Waterville will be able to enjoy this facility for years and generations to come.
Any support you can offer is very much appreciated, whether that's buying tickets to our raffle, making a financial contribution directly to the school (you can find out how to do that here) or helping us spread the word through social media or word of mouth.
