I'm taking part in Croke Park Abseil for Childhood Cancer Ireland.
I've chosen to fundraise for Childhood Cancer Ireland. Childhood Cancer Ireland is a charity founded by and led by parents of children with cancer. Childhood Cancer Ireland advocate for better supports and services for families, as well as better treatments and outcomes for children, adolescents and young adults.
In March of this year, my 5 year old nephew, Danny, was diagnosed with Rhabdomyosarcoma Cancer. Rhabdomyosarcoma (RMS) is a rare type of cancer that forms in soft tissue — specifically skeletal muscle tissue. It is mostly common in children.
To say it was a life changing moment, for all of our family, is an understatement. Danny is currently undergoing, stage by stage chemotherapy in Crumlin Childrens Hospital. Danny, now 6 years old, is a strong little boy. Like every child and adult going through Cancer, he fights every single day just to be himself again. This is what true bravery is, and this fundraiser is to help highlight that bravery. With the love and support from everyone, he will beat this.
