During 2017 I lost both my brother and sister in law (John and Marie) to cancer within six months of each other (my wife’s brother and his wife). Marie had been battling cancer for ten years and John had given up work seven years ago in order to care for her. What I was not prepared for was John to be diagnosed in November 2016 with a very aggressive cancer. Marie sadly passed away in February 2017 and John passed away in August 2017.
During that time there were a huge amount of people that supported all of us through this difficult time. Since then my wife and I, plus John and Marie’s many friends have agreed we would like to do something in their memory. We have decided to complete RunAMuck Challenge on March 10th, and are looking for sponsorship for two specific causes.
- One is to purchase equipment that can be used by families who find themselves having to be with their loved ones 24x7 for Our Lady's Hospital Navan. We know this will really help, as we spent the last 5 weeks of John’s life with him, 24x7, in the hospital. We found the staff to be amazing and feel some specific equipment for families would make a big difference.
- The second is Clares’s Wish, which is the only charity in Ireland who grant wishes for terminally ill adults who provided great support to us during this time. We are looking to raise funds for both causes.
For the equipment we are collecting the monies ourselves and will be purchasing it in conjunction with the hospital so if you are interesting in supporting this please contact me directly on [email protected].
For Clare’s wish I have set up this Donate me page.
Any, and all donations will be warmly received.
Thank you
Simon
