Helium Arts is Ireland's children's arts and health organisation. We bring art, imagination and play to children and teenagers living with chronic conditions in hospital, healthcare and community settings across Ireland.
Having worked with Helium Arts over the past three years, I've met lots of young people whose lives, from a very young age, have revolved around their illnesses. Some have had cancer multiple times before they reach their teens, some have had to have dialysis every week for years while they wait for transplants, others live in fear of collapsing from seizures at school or on the street. For all of these young people daily life is very different to how mine was as a child and teenager. At a time when you're begginning to explore your sense of self and sense of freedom, young people with theses types of conditions face so many limitations because of their illnesses. By providing a creative outlet and allowing young people to tap into their own creativity, Helium Arts brings hugely positive collective and personal experiences to these young people. For anyone who believes in the power of creativity, you'll know how these experiences can change your life. Help us uncover hidden talents, create many more smiles, positive experiences, lasting memories and children and teenagers who are able to tap into their own creativity as an outlet from illness. Please donate whatever you can, every cent will make a difference. www.helium.ie

A lifelong health condition is one which can be treated and managed but usually not cured. Children with lifelong health conditions can experience stress and they report increased anxiety and loneliness b
