Baby Dans Story
Our beautiful baby boy Dan was born on 14 March 2017 and sadly passed away 6 days later on the 20 March 2017.
For those 6 days our little love lived in the neonatal intensive care unit in CUMH.
For those 6 days we soaked in every precious second of time we were blessed with at his side.
He truly changed us and our lives beyond recognition.
“Though your days here were brief. Your spirit was live, awake and complete” -John O'Donohue
Try as we may our words of thanks and appreciation to the staff of the CUMH fall so short. How do you thank the people who made it possible for you to hold your baby boy for the first time, who support you through the overwhelming heartbreak of his last moments? Well they say actions speak louder than words. To that end….
What are we doing?
CUMH are currently fundraising to refurbish the Quiet Room (see full detail below) and we want to help.
Personally this room means so much to us –
It is the room where we gathered as a family after Baby Dan had passed away - the greatest heartbreak I hope we will ever know.
It is the room where our family got to hold Baby Dan in their arms for hours, for the first time.
It is the room where our family held us up as our hearts broke into a million shattered pieces.
It is the room where we all spoke of Dan and kissed him and loved him and celebrated the little angel that he is.
How are we doing it?
Peter and a 17 strong group of whole-hearted family and friends are coming together to cycle the 180km Ring of Kerry Charity Cycle on the 1st of July starting from Killarney, Co. Kerry.
Supporting from afar, Peters sister Julieanne will be completing a half marathon (21k run) on the 25th June in Vancouver in memory of Baby Dan.
We want to make Dan proud and give back in some small way to those who gave so much to us. To use the experience to positively impact other families in a similar situation in the future.
To Baby Dan Matthew Martin in loving memory – our little love, Mama and Daddy love you like no other and this world will forever feel your spirit, we will make sure of that xx

CUMH Fundraiser:
With your help, CUMH, working with CUH Charity can upgrade and refurbish the Quiet Room to create a more comfortable, intimate and private haven, acting as a sanctuary for parents in the midst of their overwhelming grief and as a space for important prayers, ceremonies and reflections to take place. The quality of this environment effects their whole bereavement experience so it is vital that it has a warm, non-clinical feel which respects parents needs at this difficult time and provides a sense of relief and comfort to both parents and their extended family.
We need your help, so please give generously to support our appeal to refurbish the Quiet Room in CUMH. CUMH have a target of €30,000 so all donations, no matter how big or small will make a valuable and lasting contribution to the amazing work that takes place in CUMH, every day of every year. We are looking to play a part and fundraise €2,500 towards this project. Thank you!
