Hey Guys,
It's that time of year again, and I am participating in Galway Cycle 2016. For those of you who don't know what this is, on April 8th, more than 200 cyclists, myself included, will cycle from Maynooth University to Eyre Square in Galway. This 200k cycle will then be repeated two days later when we cycle back to Maynooth. Training for this epic cross country cycle takes place every weekend, rain or shine (well, actually just rain at the moment). Why do we do this every year? To raise funds for Irish children's charities. This year's chosen charity is Down Syndrome Ireland and I am asking for your sponsorship to help me raise funds for this very worthy cause. All money raised will go to the charity. Please read below to learn how your sponsorship will help Down Syndrome Ireland in their ongoing work. Thank you very much for your donation.
Down Syndrome Ireland have identified two very special projects that would immensely benefit from the funds raised by the Galway cycle.
Firstly, we desperately need funds to expand our Education Programme. The programme works with schools and families to ensure children with Down syndrome can access education and get the support they need. Our current resources are extremely stretched and our members are suffering because of this. The funds from the Galway cycle will be used to fund an additional education officer, who will focus in particular on 2nd level education, as well as funding the adaption of curriculum materials and providing specialised training for teachers. Education is absolutely key to people with Down syndrome achieving independence and better life opportunities.
Secondly, we would very much like to provide a multipurpose family space at our new building. The space will incorporate sensory equipment, play area, specialist resources and a social space where members can meet, socialise and engage with our services. We would see this as very much the heart of our new home and a space our families can call their own.
