A Dungarvan Group take on the Malin to Mizen Challenge for Breakthrough Cancer Research

 A Journey of Camaraderie and Determination in the Malin2Mizen Cycling Challenge

On August 23rd, 2023, 7 cyclists embarked on the challenge of a lifetime: Cycling 650k from Malin Head in Co. Donegal to Mizen Head in Co. Cork. This epic coast-to-coast journey, known as the Malin2Mizen (M2M) cycle, promised to test their endurance and dedication raising vital funds for Breakthrough Cancer Research. The group includes Corinna Walsh, Francis Dwane, Donal Looby, John Campian, Richie Hayes. Justin Sanderson, Johnny O Connor, Ronan Wall whose father Nicky provided support during the trip joined by Tracey Fennell, Annemarie Power, and Tasha Lanigan, the three ladies shared driving the support van and cycling with the main group. Additionally, two more cyclists, Annabelle Hackett and Tomas Gough joining the group on Friday night and cycling the remaining 250 kilometres to the finish line.

Breakthrough Cancer Research’s mission is “100% survival for 100% of cancers”.

Which is a mission so close to our hearts.

Breakthrough Cancer Research is a Cork based medical research charity focused on cancer, funding world class cancer research into poor prognosis cancers, which are poorly served by current treatment. They facilitate collaboration between scientists and clinicians across Ireland and Internationally. 

With unity, determination, and a shared purpose, the Malin2Mizen cycling challenge has brought together a group of individuals from diverse backgrounds, ages, nationalities, and abilities.

“We had a wonderful year with so many memories over the previous months that finally reaching our goal was one of mixed emotions, the friends and memories we created confirms that if you feel really keen to do something and you can get some likeminded people on board anything is possible”.
