Raising funds for Kerry Hospice Foundation, Kerry Cancer Support Group

A chairde,

3 years on from my last fundraising attempt I'm on my feet again, except this time around it's a mammoth undertaking, going to run to Dingle following my normal route to work, over the Connor Pass before the end of May. Again doing it in memory of Mom, and attempting to raise funds for the Kerry Cancer Support Group and the Palliative Care in UHK.

2 fantastic charities that we unfortunately have had seen in action over the last few years of Mom's life.

Mom availed of the bus service to Cork, which the Cancer Support Group provide for her Chemotherapy. Here she made many friends and was always glowing in her praise for the drivers, and everyone who has made this service possible.

Unfortunately in her last 24 hours Mom availed of the excellent services of the Palliative Care in UHK. The care and attention which she was provided with was second to none. The nurses and team under Dr. Patricia Sheehan are outstanding, and they are a credit to themselves.

Raising funds again on the memory of Mom, in what should have been her 65th year and her retiring from school, which we all know would have been a struggle.

Buíochas ó chroí don tacaíocht

  • Gally's Gallop 2.0 Just want to thank everyone for their support over the last number of weeks. I completed the run on Thursday last and was blown away by the support I have received at the finish line from my fellow colleagues and pupils in Pobalscoil Chorca Dhuibhne. It was a special and emotional moment and one I will remember for a long time. Míle maith agaibh as an bhfáilte speisialta. I have lodged the offline donations this orning totally €2700 in cash and €1100 in cheques so far. I will leave this online page active for another few days in case there are a few more donations to be made. Once again thanks for all the support over the last number of weeks and I hope we did you proud Mom

  • Gally's Gallop 2.0 Gura míle maith agaibh as an tacaíocht go dtí seo. Dhá lá fágtha go dtí an lá ciniúna. t-2 days left to the day of reckoning. Just want to thank everyone for their support. It has been fantastic. There have been a number of offline donations, totalling €2000 so that brings the total right up to close on €13,000 which will be evenly distributed between both charities. Looking forward to taking on the challenge not only in memory of my other, Anne but also in memory of all those who have lost loved ones to cancer down through the years

  • Gally's Gallop 2.0 Just a little note on where all this money goes Kerry Hospice Foundation So last year we spent about €950, 000. This was mainly paying off the final part of our agreement with the HSE, in relation to running the inpatient unit. This year it will probably be closer to €300,000, which will be our baseline for the next few years. Bear in mind that we are now planning for a 5 bed extension of the unit, which will cost millions (as yet early stages, so no firm cost). To date we have fully paid for both the inpatient and outpatient units, at a cost of over €12 million. All of this was from voluntary fundraising. Kerry Cancer Support Group The service costs €5,500 approx per week to run. Our new bus is fantastic, absolutely state of the art and will make the journey so much easier and is wheelchair but all this comes at a cost. €230,000. As you know we receive no statuary funding although we did get a partial grant for the bus but had to raise 75%of it. We are completely reliant on donations to run the service. We have transported over 75% of those diagnosed in the region to 8 different centers since our foundation in 2010.
