Thank you for taking the time to visit this memorial page for our friend Barry. In memory of Barry we’ve chosen to fundraise for the “Ballinderreen Benevolent Fund” and for “Bád Tarrthála Oileáin Aráinn (Aran Islands Lifeboats RNLI)”. All funds raised here will go directly to these great causes.
In 2003 Barry, along with his friends, held his 21st birthday celebrations in the Aran Islands (Inis Mór) and he always spoke of how he would like to return for his 40th birthday. Unfortunately Barry passed away in August of 2021 so we have decided that we would like to return to Inis Mór and celebrate his 40th birthday for him. Barry always held a great affinity for Inis Mór and also spent a good period working there in the past so for those reasons we decided that it would be a good destination to hold some charity events in his memory.
This coming August a group of Barry’s family and friends will travel to Inis Mór for his 40th Birthday where there will be 2 charity events held in his memory and in support of our chosen charities;
On Friday 12th August a small group of Barrys friends will hold a rowing event where they will row a currach across from Galway to Inis Mor. Then on Saturday 13th August everybody is welcome as we participate in an 8KM walk on the island in Barry's memory.
We decided to support local charities based in both our home in Ballinderreen and in Inis Mór. We chose the “Ballinderreen Benevolent Fund” due to all the good work they do supporting people and families in our community who have come into hard times and we went with “Bád Tarrthála Oileáin Aráinn” (Aran Islands Lifeboats RNLI) as they provide an essential lifesaving service on the Aran Islands. We feel that Barry would be very proud to support both of these charities.
Everybody is welcome to join us for the weekend especially on Saturday August 13th as we walk for Barry on his 40th birthday.
