Day 31: done and dusted 13km complete. Unbelievable support and encouragement from everybody and an enjoyable month of swimming. Donations are still coming in and I'm grateful for them all. Thanks everybody for getting behind me. Twas a lovely swim this morning to finish and my bestest buddies came up to cheer me on. Its great for them to see their mommy achieving goals. A big splash to finish the challenge then to entertain the small man. Twas lovely.
31 Aug 2020Day 30: What a contrast from yesterday, the rough and tumble replaced by calm still waters. There is something soothing about being immersed in the lake with all the colours of the landscape around you.... Truly magical. 1.4km completed, I took the advice of you all and just kept swimming and swimming. 1 hour later I was feeling the chill. 600m to go totally doable. Thanks everybody.
30 Aug 2020Day 29: Here goes its 8am Saturday morning and it's 10 degrees. How did that happen, waters starting to get cooler. The recent spell of bad weather and our holiday in Donegal has left me playing catch ip. 3 days to compkete 3.2km. A big one was needed this morning, the first 600m was torture and after that I dug deep and stayed going. The waves bashed and crashed around me far chopper than I thought they would be when I looked out the window. 1.2km later I felt I had dfone enough and the toes were markedly whiter. 2km left to do in 2 days, here's hoping its a little less choppy tommorrow. Thanks for all your donation so amazed by how much has been raised. Fsir play. Xx
29 Aug 2020Day 24: Greetings from Donegal, we took a trip for rest and relaxation. The challenge continues though and for the next few days it's in the Atlantic waters off Donegal. Murvagh beach was delightful this morning after rain yesterday. Kids had a ball digging in the sand, Caoimhe swam alongside me mostly and a hearty lunch after gave us a morning of fun. 600m done today in this new location bringing me ever closer at 9.8km I won't lie guys pressure is on this impromptu trip took me away from my routine but I reckon a few swims while I'm away followed by a busy weekend will see me though. I've come this far, il do the rest too. I'm stubnorn like that.
24 Aug 2020Day 18: Another 900m added to the total. A few well needed rest days followed by a return to energetic waters this evening. So many people out enjoying the lake this evening. Keep following along and spread the word. Thanks
18 Aug 2020Day 15: Quick 500m this morning as time was short. Ruairi and I enjoyed some fun after and felt buzzing on way home. Breakfast tasted good after moving the body. Energy and patience for the day much better, do something to move today you will feel all the better for it. Have a great weekend ????
15 Aug 2020Day 13: over the half way mark now on the challenge 7km!! 1.2km done today. Another lovely swimming morning again, the weather has really helped. This run of good weather has improved mood n end and made the summer holidays feel a little more real. Have been thinking about all the challenges we have faced this year and all those yet to come. I'm grateful for the little things these days. On reflection a cancer diagnosis must be something that brings clarity to the everyday also. Its such a shame that alot of us have to experience tough challenges before we slow down and take stock. Take time back today and do something you enjoy! Thanks for all the donations really blown away by how much has already came in. Yere all amazing. My two are so proud of themselves, one swam to a buoy and the other started putting his head under. Lake swimming has been different for them
14 Aug 2020Day12: Most distance covered in one swim so far 1km. Fitness is on the up feeling good. A foggy start this morning gave way to clear green waters as the sun started to appear on my last few laps. Im so glad I started and hopefully will keep this up past the 13km. Good for mind body and soul without a doubt. The donations have climbed with my efforts, thanks so much for having faith in me ????
12 Aug 2020Day 10: up to 4.8km today, the weekend weather made swimming easier and we got to enjoy some family time at the lake with the kids, parents and neighbours all enjoying our beautiful lake. A little worse for wear this evening, a bruised foot and lots of bites, tommorrow could be a rest day. Thanks so much for all the donations so far, I'm blown away by all the support and so delighted to be able to raise money for a worthy cause.
10 Aug 2020Day 8: I've always said we are so lucky to have this lake on our doorstep but I have a newfound appreciation for it after week 1 if this challenge. The weather has picked up for the better we are being treated to sunshine and warm breezes
08 Aug 2020Day 7: 5 days swimming this week and 2.9km completed. My yogi tea offered some wisdom this morning and you know that lil tea bag was right. If we can create the conditions for success and allow it to happen we can achieve and be successful. I set a target to achieve, I allowed it to happen by focusing on positive and strengths and here now I feel like I've shortened the road on the 13km. Choppy busy waters this evening brought a new energy to the swim, I had to work harder and prob shouldn't have ate dinner so close to the swim but sure ya live and learn. Now it's time to rest, and start off my holidays from work. Thanks for yere support xx
07 Aug 2020Day 6: 4 days of swimming and another 800m today. Twas calm clear and sunny, can you believe it. I had a swim buddy today, he kept a close eye on me, on my final lap he said in his best mucker accent 'your struggling Mom'. The colours all around me today were magnificent, deep greens, pale blues, and the colours of Loughrea Town in the distance. The energy gained from the daily swim is epic. Keep donating guys there are people and families out there relying on our efforts. Thanks so much
06 Aug 2020Day 3 Swimming and 5 days into August, 1.7km completed. I'm pretty chuffed with that. Time is not always on my side with 3 munchkins at home, carving this time out is part of my challenge. It was beautiful in Loughrea Lake today, calm and still with the raindrops bouncing off the surface of the water. I pretty much had the water to myself, I focused on breathing and maximising each stroke, its lovely the rhythm that comes with swimming and the stillness of mind. I am so grateful for each donation and message of support I have received, thanks a million to you all.
