He needs to have a spinal surgery as soon as possible. In September Franek had an appointment at CRC Clinic in Dublin and spoke to a surgeon Dr. Dodd there. He said Franek needs that surgery as soon as possible, otherwise in a maximum 5 years he will stop breathing as his spinal curve damages his lungs and has a huge impact on his breathing and also his internal organs which get dislocated. Because of that he often has chest infections that end up with pneumonia. Back in January this year, he got a very bad pneumonia and his saturation levels could not be stabilised and he was put in a coma at UL Hospital Limerick, transported to ICU at Temple Street Hospital in Dublin. He was on ICU for 2 weeks but luckily managed to recover and come back home.

Franek's family live in a terraced 3-bedroom house and all their bedrooms are upstairs. They need to carry Franek up and down the stairs when moving him, and his current weight is 36 kg.

On top of that Tatiana had a brain tumour surgery (acoustic schwannoma) last year in August and she cannot lift him or carry him anymore as it creates a pressure in her brain and affects her by terrible headaches. She still has MRI scans every 6 months to check the tumour (20% of it was left as the neurosurgeon did not want to damage her facial nerves). There is no possibility of a stairlift as the stairs are too narrow, but also Franek is not able to sit on his own on a chair, so the lift is no use to them. He shares a bedroom with his twin brother Antoni who often gets his sleep disturbed as Franek wakes up a few times during the night. Val is the only person working in the family. Tatiana is a full-time carer for Franek. Due to his frequent chest infections, they get calls from school quite regularly that they need to collect him as he is not well.
