Thank you for visiting my fundraising page on iDonate.ie for the Virtual Frances Thornton Memorial Galway Bay Swim. All funds raised here will go directly to Cancer Care West.
I had registered for the Galway Bay Swim in 2020, but a world wide pandemic had other ideas. And then my Dad was diagnosed with terminal cancer. Covid made a heartbreaking situation even harder. I got to hug my Dad twice in the year he was dying and it's a sadness that'll never leave me.
When someone falls ill, your world shrinks and the stress and worry can be overwhelming. The Cancer Care West nurses were part of a medical team that helped our family enormously. They were kind, supportive and professional and knew exactly how to help when we needed it.
I'm privileged to be able to do this swim and fund raise to help others who are affected by cancer. I look forward to July with mixed emotions. There will be a gap at the finish line but one of my Dad's loveliest characteristics was an altruistic outlook and always helping others. He even reminded me to tell the doctors about his donor card ("...in case there's anything they can use Sarah...") on his last night with us.
And in that spirit, thank you for helping others through your Cancer Care West donation
